I don't understand how this process works.

The amendment process works by negotiating with the court to change the offense to a lesser offense in exchange for certain considerations. In the case of traffic tickets, that means more money.

The court charges an increased fine in exchange for reducing your offense from a moving violation to a “zero-point, non-moving infraction”. The valuable benefit in this is that non-moving infractions are NOT recorded on your driving record.

If they are not recorded on your record, they do not incur points, nor are the charges apparent to insurance companies, credit evaluations, employers, or others that may inquire as to the status of your driving record.
