How many tickets can I amend?
by Erik
I got another speeding ticket one month after another. I got a ticket on July 4th 2012 and just recieved one today 8/2/12. How many tickets can I amend? Hi Erik and thanks for a good question. The answer varies from state to state and from court to court. Courts have the ability to set their own criteria for amendments and most anything else that occurs in their jursidiction. However in Overland Park, KS Municipal court, I can tell you that they will only allow 1 per year - year meaning they must occur more than 12 months apart - not per calendar year such as one in 2011 and one in 2012. Overland Park is one of the more stringent courts in the Kansas City area. For example, they also will not allow ticket amendments for citations that were issued in a school zone, construction zone, to driver's with CDL licenses (commercial driver's license) and will not issue an amendment to any driver whose ticket was marked as "RUDE TO THE OFFICER". Again, here's a prime example as to why we say "have any ticket amended that is eligible to be amended". Some drivers say "this is my first ticket, I'll wait until I get another one". The next one may not be eligible for amendment. And the first ticket if it wasn't amended will already set the wheels in motion for an insurance hike. Thanks again for your question and good luck.
